Summer 2023 could pass by, Counter-Strike 2 is official!

The official announcement of Counter-Strike 2 has arrived! After numerous rumors, videos, screenshots, and leaks, it’s finally confirmed. The website describes it as “the largest technical leap forward in Counter-Strike’s history,” anticipating years of updates and new features. The full game is set to release in the summer of 2023.

Valve has initiated a limited test, referring to it as a “revamp of every system, content, and aspect of the Counter-Strike experience.” For now, players can test their skills on the iconic Dust II map in Deathmatch mode.

Counter-Strike 2 utilizes Valve’s Source 2 engine and introduces updates to core game mechanics, including enhanced smoke grenades and “sub-tick updates” that inform “servers of the precise moment motion starts, a shot is fired, or a ‘nade is thrown.” Additionally, the game will feature updated maps, improved visuals, UI enhancements, reworked audio, and more smaller thing, that makes it The Game.

Valve assures that while maps will receive a fresh look in CS2, experienced players’ skills should remain relevant. The company also discusses the game’s three “tiers” of maps. Firstly, there are “touchstone” levels like Dust II, which retain their core design with minor visual adjustments. This allows players to experience the new gameplay in a familiar environment. Some maps have been enhanced or reimagined, either incorporating Source 2 features or being entirely reconstructed.

As have been sad “much more is on the horizon.” Thankfully, Valve states that all items collected in CS:GO will be accessible in the new game and will “benefit from Source 2 lighting and materials.” The company also highlights that all stock weapons have received “high-resolution models.”
